Roger with perfect start

14.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger won his first match of the 2014 Australian Open with ease, defeating Australia's James Duckworth 6-4, 6-4 and 6-2.

Roger also broke another Grand Slam record by playing his 57th consecutive major tournament, surpassing the Open Era record of 56 he had shared with South African Wayne Ferreira.

With his new coach Stefan Edberg in the stands for the first time, Roger said "It's in a way a dream come true for me. I used to watch his matches and get inspired to play this great game, so it's very special."

As temperates rose to over 40 degrees, Roger was always clearly in charge of the match and was able to wrap up the victory after 1:44h of play. Next up is Blaz Kavcic (ATP 99) against whom Roger has never played before.

First two sets were sublime Roger - everything working so perfectly. As *Snodfan* said, a bit more work in the third set - Kamke didn't want to look like a complete walkover, poor chap - but you got it done in three which is all that matters. You're looking wonderful, everything really connecting. And you're looking gorgeous as always, love you, xxxxxxxx

Magnificent display in the first two sets, Roger. What a joy to watch!

You had to work harder in the third set but glad you finished it off in the tiebreak.

Well done!

I'm working too, "technically" ;)
He's playing really well. I was really happy about the Matosevic match in Brisbane, but in that match it was his opponent's errors.
In this one, Roger is making things happen - winners flying left and right. You'll love the highlights reel. Kavcic is a pretty decent player.
