Roger with perfect start

14.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger won his first match of the 2014 Australian Open with ease, defeating Australia's James Duckworth 6-4, 6-4 and 6-2.

Roger also broke another Grand Slam record by playing his 57th consecutive major tournament, surpassing the Open Era record of 56 he had shared with South African Wayne Ferreira.

With his new coach Stefan Edberg in the stands for the first time, Roger said "It's in a way a dream come true for me. I used to watch his matches and get inspired to play this great game, so it's very special."

As temperates rose to over 40 degrees, Roger was always clearly in charge of the match and was able to wrap up the victory after 1:44h of play. Next up is Blaz Kavcic (ATP 99) against whom Roger has never played before.

@SHATIR
you lucky guy, are able to watch live. I'm stuck with my job, only getting score updates. I saw first match repeat , felt our man was in charity match mode still then. How is he going today? Looking good & ready for rest three?

Roger up a set and a break.
He's moving and playing sharply, although a few unforced errors here and there.
