Roger still to drop a set

18.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has secured his spot in the round of the last 16 with a clear 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 win over Russia's Teimuras Gabaschwili (ATP 79) at the Australian Open.

"I'm happy that from my side I'm winning my matches in straight sets. It's been different conditions every match: the heat first and the indoor match and now normal conditions today with a bit of wind. So it's just good to get through and get a good feel out there and make sure if you've got a chance to win your matches easier to do so."

Roger displayed a very solid match under conditions a lot more like what he is used to. He broke his Russian opponent in regular intervals, always keeping a safe lead and managing to fight off five breaks himself. After 1h 41 of play he celebrated his 71st victory at the Australian Open and will play the round of tha last 16 for the 13th consecutive year. He will meet either Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (ATP 10) or Gilles Simon (ATP 19) on Monday.

You think Uncle Toni, Becker, Lendl are worrying yet????

Well, they should be..... Guess after Roger's win, the others were hitting the practise court asap....

And Novak's draw is just an insult to all the others....

Hey HULI, Roger gave Stefan a great birthday present.........

Seriously..... If Roger wins AO with Stefan.... I don't care how many millions Stefan will ask....... Roger will have to hire him fulltime, not only for 10 weeks..... no matter what salary Edberg wants....

So 12 sets in four matches without dropping one. Is this a record?

Congrats Roger, you showed today, the difference between tennis and wrestling. It's time to send wrestlers home!
Great game,Tsonga did his best, but you were unbeatable.Remember, this is your game, you win by playing better, not expecting others to make mistakes, like some other players do.Your mistake was that you tried to do what those players do,but you are not like that.
Edberg is a very good choice,he brought you back and gave you some of his tips.

CJM, I agree whole heartedly. He was totally committed and focused tonight and I think that made all the difference. He stayed in the match for its entirety. I haven't seen him that focused in a long time.

If he plays like that in 2 days time, he will be invincible.

If he plays like this he is very ready for Murray! Do not know what he has done to his serve, but it is now back to being rock solid again and what a difference it makes.
Some of his shots were so cheeky I was laughing at times. A long time since they have been that cheeky! Poor Jo-Willy. He is one of the most likeable players on tour. His game is much more enjoyable than Nadal, Murray and Djoko, but RF had to win!

Congratulations Roger! You played really well, excellent! I wish you to keep it up against Murray! Great serve, a lot of winners and not many UE's! Come on, Champion! You can! :)
