Roger breezes into semis

22.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has seen off the challenge of Andy Murray to reach the semi-final of the Australian Open.with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-7(6) and 6-3 win.

"I'm probably one of the guys who misses more break-point opportunities than other guys so I'm kind of used to it. You stay positive - give yourself a chance," Roger said.

Roger did not face any break points while converting both of his opportunities in building a comfortable two-set lead. But Murray got his first and only break chance in the third set when Roger was serving for the match at 5-4. After Murray was successful with that, he even went on to defent two match-points in the tie-breaker and win the set. Roger won the opening game of the fourth set before Murray battled in his serve as the two players went to deuce 10 times. Roger later broke Murray in the eighth game and held serve this time to wrap up the win in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Roger will now face Rafael Nadal in the semi-final on Friday in what will be their 33rd encounter on the ATP Tour.

OK. Let's look for the positives:

Roger has changed to a new racquet (good move so far). He is making far less errors with it.

He defended his points from last year.

He has Stefan.

He is moving far better than he was last year and making better decisions when he is in the key moments.

FAR LESS UNFORCED ERRORS.

I think the tennis world will start to look at where Roger is again. Keep it up and we will see another GS. Bring it Roger, we believe in you.

I'm not that sad like before. I know the limitations of Federer's backhand against Nadal is more than against anyone else. But the good news is that he attacked all match. Edberg needs to keep him attacking and practice mid court shots, volleying, and serving to the corners and taking your opponent out of court. I would stand wider on both serves against Nadal and serve wide 24/7. Make him play harder returns. It'll irritate the life out of him, having to hit in so little court.

Rogers time to shine will arrive soon. I feel it. And I really hope he continue working with Edberg. They are the perfect match.

Well done for making a super 11th Oz semi...wished you'd taken a set. You played some beautiful tennis even tho the bull in the china shop won today, you're still the maestro.

Love you all the way. Wish Stan takes it to Rafa and wins.
