Roger breezes into semis

22.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has seen off the challenge of Andy Murray to reach the semi-final of the Australian Open.with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-7(6) and 6-3 win.

"I'm probably one of the guys who misses more break-point opportunities than other guys so I'm kind of used to it. You stay positive - give yourself a chance," Roger said.

Roger did not face any break points while converting both of his opportunities in building a comfortable two-set lead. But Murray got his first and only break chance in the third set when Roger was serving for the match at 5-4. After Murray was successful with that, he even went on to defent two match-points in the tie-breaker and win the set. Roger won the opening game of the fourth set before Murray battled in his serve as the two players went to deuce 10 times. Roger later broke Murray in the eighth game and held serve this time to wrap up the win in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Roger will now face Rafael Nadal in the semi-final on Friday in what will be their 33rd encounter on the ATP Tour.

Lots of players CAN beat him, not just every time or most of the time. He is machine-like and also, I'm sorry to say, very good at hitting passing shots which makes attacking very hard.

Too bad it wasn't more competitive today. Very good tournament nevertheless

HULIETTA, yes, Dimitrov had a real chance there to beat Nadal, but i think his young age showed its head in those setballs the kid had in the 3rd set and missed.
He is on the right track though, if he keeps playing like this, i suppose soon he will be a major factor in top 10 and will be beating the top dogs. He already beat Djoko and was the only one outside top 10 at that stage of AO.
Looks like Sharapova has good influence on him ;)

Hey guys..... don't be too hard on Roger in your comments. I haven't seen the match yet, don't know what went wrong, don't know what Roger did wrong, what he could have done better, if the loss was totally his fault or not....but I am sure he tried...

Damn you Stan... did you have to defeat Novak???
Now... you better win... Goodluck

It will be interesting to see if Roger's post match interview will actually touch on the fact that Nadal is bending the rules to suit himself.

I will probably only record the final. Then if Stan by any chance wins it, I will watch he recording. Do not want to watch another match by Nadal unless he is beaten.
