Roger secures Swiss lead

31.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger did not have to dig too deep to give Switzerland a 1-0 lead over Serbia, defeating Ilija Bozoljac (ATP 268) in the first-round tie of the Davis Cup in Novi Sad today.

"Ilija was playing well, especially in the second set," Roger said. "It was a tough game, it could have been one set all."

Roger wrapped up the match in under two hours. He only fell behind in the second set when he broke back to regain control and finally take the set. He eventually wrapped up the win without any further problems, securing his 33rd win in his 40th Davis Cup singles match. Stan Wawrinka faced Dusan Lajovic in the second singles today.

CORNJERKER CJM YUKIMI
it's really amazing sharing thoughts and feeling from different corners of the world :-) and all because of and thanks to this lovely man!
I agree with CJM: he's not that young and we don't know how long we'll have the chance to see him gracing tennis courts with his artistry, so every special moment we got to share with his tennis is precious. No matter victories or losses, we are lucky just to witness his poetry on court
I really hope we'll still manage to do so

CJM - I know exactly what you mean - for me I saw Roger giving his speech after he won the World Tour Finals in 2010 - I hadn't even seen him play that night - but by his words and his manner, I thought to myself "this is a very special person indeed" - I have been hooked ever since - my wish for Roger now is that the media leaves him alone - let him play his beautiful tennis for as long as he wants - a win only happens at the end - but we all win every time Roger steps onto a tennis court!

Roger does many good things by being Roger and he is too humble to realize it.
I hated tennis until I happened on him playing on TV once, probably around 2008! I think I am one of many who were the same. He has brought people from many countries together and I think has helped a lot of people who have had difficult time through them. The world always seems a better place when he smiles somehow! He is something very special!

You are so right Yuki! I am clear across the ocean so I feel very blessed that people from different countries are willing to share their "Roger stories" with me - I love hearing from them and love to know how they have felt seeing Roger play in person - I hope to see him for the first time in person in Cincinnati this August if everything works out - I wonder if Roger realizes that because of him people from different countries have been brought together - that's awesome!

AS YOU CAN SEE FROM ROGER'S BIRTHYEAR 1981 , THEY CAN CALCULATE WHAT ASTROLOGICAL ANIMAL SYMBOL HE WAS BORN UNDER - IN HIS CASE , THE ROOSTER.

AND VICE VERSA, WHICH MEANS THAT IF I REVEALED WHAT ASTROLOGICAL ANIMAL SYMBOL I WAS BORN UNDER, MY AGE COULD BE CALCULATED APPROXIMATELY, DEPENDING ON WHAT ELSE IS KNOWN ABOUT ME, TEENAGER, YOUNG ADULT, 30 SOMETHIN, MATURE, & SO ON?.

SO IF ONE DOESN'T WANT ONE'S AGE TO BE KNOWN , DON'T REVEAL YOUR ASTROLOGICAL ANIMAL SYMBOL :-)
