10th anniversary no. 1

02.02.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Today marks the 10th anniversary of Roger first becoming No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings on 2 February 2004. The abiding memory is of Roger dropping to his knees and raising his arms in celebration. It was 9:30 p.m. in Melbourne, on 30 January 2004, and he had just beaten his rival for No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, Juan Carlos Ferrero, in the Australian Open semi-finals. The victory proved to be enough for Roger to become the world’s premier player for the first time. Roger confessed, “I wanted to enjoy this moment. You only get to be No. 1 once.”

Roger: put all your best tennis in these next three events and on the draws against kashastan, if you win it all you can add 2180 points (implying you play both rubbers at Dc) and be smooth sailing in the the top 4 until rome. I still beleive the calendar in clay and in Asia is short but is the last time I will say this. One final accolade to add top your legend is another RG and another year end number one. to do that you need more time on courts. Best of luck, gooo rogeeeeeeer.

I am positive the Roger we will see will be even better than his Austalian Open performance. For the first time we should see a Stefan effect. I am sure Stan's success will have also energised him in a positive way. I am looking forward to this!
I am not expecting Delpo to do well, even if his wrist is pain free, I am sure it will have knocked his confidence. Either way, Roger has showed us he can take out Tsonga and Delpo. I want to see him take out Djoko, I am sure he can.

I really really hope that Roger rolls just like he did in the Australian open because that Roger was just like the old times. If he plays like that, I am so so sure he is gonna be invincible. For that he has to be positive and keep healthy and super motivated and I believe in him

Yes, shame Feds is in Djokovic's side but still, it will be interesting to see how it goes - this is a tournament they've both won a number of times. Tsonga and Del Potro on the other side, neither of whom have looked that good lately. Surprised Del Potro's playing - he was struggling with wrist injury (again) at Rotterdam. Will he play Tuesday or Wednesday I wonder. Can't wait. Anyways, Go Fed... our gorgeous champ!
