Miami Master

20.03.2007 | Tennis

Eliminated by Argentina’s Guillermo Canas in the first phase, Roger will try to bounce back this week at the second Masters Series of the season. Having won the tournament in 2005 and 2006, Roger will try to capture the title in Florida a third consecutive time.

Not having to compete in the first round, Roger will meet the winner of the match between America’s Sam Querrey and Russia’s Igor Andreev. Should he go on to the next round, Spain’s Nicolas Almagro (ATP 34) and France’s Richard Gasquet (ATP 16) could be up after that. Tommy Haas (ATP 9) or Spain’s Tommy Robredo (ATP 6) are possible opponents in the following rounds and towards the end Roger could cross paths with Nikolay Davydenko (ATP 4) or Croatia’s Ivan Ljubicic (ATP 7).

Roger’s early defeat and Rafael Nadal’s victory in Indian Wells only had a relatively small influence on the world rankings. The Spaniard moved up to Roger by 770 points, but still lies 2960 points behind him. Andy Roddick occupies the third rank at a fair distance.

As fans said, tennis is a different game without you. Have you noticed that ESPN2 cut their coverage of the Pacific Open after you lost in the second round?

You will conquer this title. Just play your game. Who cares about streaks. One match at a time. You have nothing to prove. We knwo you are the grand master and that you are realistic about how hard it is to perform at high level all the time. I d
