Sixth Dubai title

01.03.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger celebrated his sixth tournament title in Dubai after a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Tomas Berdych today.

Roger started well and broke Berdych's serve early in the opening set - but then suddenly started to struggle, dropping his own serve twice and losing the set. In the second, he fell behind as he dropped his serve once again. But that was the moment when he flicked the switch to fight back, eventually securing the second set. In set number three, he displayed fantastic tennis in the crucial moments and secured another break, holing the lead to win the match.

With 78 titles Roger is now trailing only Jimmy Connors (109) and Ivan Lendl (94). He has won at least one title 14 years in a row, equaling Lendl’s record.

What is up with Ferrer. I have not heard of him much this year at all? I doubt Delpo will play poor man, I feel for him. Murray I think is probably in much the same situation as what Roger was last year, except he was operated on, but it amounts to the same thing with lack of training, practice and confidence. I think he may struggle most of this year. I think with Stefan behind him RF can crack the Nadal problem just about all the other top ten RF has beaten in recently. 2014 = year of FEDEX!

Rogers rock was always his serve and I feel that it has often let him down the last couple of years. In his so called hey day, his serve was pretty well unreadable and unbreakable. When his game was in any danger, one knew what he was going to do. His opponents may as well gone to their seats and sat down as he just brought out the ace "bag" out and slammed in as many aces as he needed. He is better to what he had become but his serve is not as solid as it was, room for improvement!

Thanks Somnath, for details on defending points -- I hadn't realized that Ferrer had withdrawn and, of course, Delpo's wrist may not be 100%.

Only about 250-290 points between Fed's ranking and the three above him -- Delpo, Murray, Berdych, so with a win or at least good showing at IW, he should move up in the rankings.

Good luck and C'mon Rog!!

You are right again. Our inborn tennis genius will certainly play Rio16.
I just love to read your comments. I know whom you are pointing to. I guess he will need a stick or wheel chair at the age of 30+.
Do you have any idea when the IW draw will be published?
