Sixth Dubai title

01.03.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger celebrated his sixth tournament title in Dubai after a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Tomas Berdych today.

Roger started well and broke Berdych's serve early in the opening set - but then suddenly started to struggle, dropping his own serve twice and losing the set. In the second, he fell behind as he dropped his serve once again. But that was the moment when he flicked the switch to fight back, eventually securing the second set. In set number three, he displayed fantastic tennis in the crucial moments and secured another break, holing the lead to win the match.

With 78 titles Roger is now trailing only Jimmy Connors (109) and Ivan Lendl (94). He has won at least one title 14 years in a row, equaling Lendl’s record.

Edit..
Points to be defended in IW.
1.Ferrer is not playing.
2.Berdych 360
3.Murray-180
4.Del porto-600
5.Roger-180
So if our man wins the IW he will certainly move up to no 4.

Really amazed to see in spite of his very low first serve % in, he was able to pull off the final. In recent past which had not been the case, But he needs to work on this too as service has always been his strong weapon. Hopefully after these good wins & a trophy under his belt he is out of the mental shackle & ready to inflict fear into his opponents.

So what we have now after Dubai open?
1.Our man was able to beat every current top ten players except Ferrer & Nadal within 4 months span.
2.He breaks the myth 'he can not come back when he is Set-down.'
3.His average service speed has increased.
4.Physicality has never been his method,so obviously he can continue playing more years than any other retired player or current grinders, being in first five. He has shown every sign of that.
5.His tactics were effective
6.Overall good start in 2

Hello Kemna, good to know you are here again.
MI5: Doesn't matter the ranking, Roger is the 1st for all of us. I'm sure he has better ranking this year. He showed us in Dubai his brilliant talent and mentally he was strong as well. Beating Nole and Berdych was a great step for the beginning of this year!
