Sixth Dubai title

01.03.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger celebrated his sixth tournament title in Dubai after a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Tomas Berdych today.

Roger started well and broke Berdych's serve early in the opening set - but then suddenly started to struggle, dropping his own serve twice and losing the set. In the second, he fell behind as he dropped his serve once again. But that was the moment when he flicked the switch to fight back, eventually securing the second set. In set number three, he displayed fantastic tennis in the crucial moments and secured another break, holing the lead to win the match.

With 78 titles Roger is now trailing only Jimmy Connors (109) and Ivan Lendl (94). He has won at least one title 14 years in a row, equaling Lendl’s record.

PICKA

I saw this "conversation" after the semis but before the final. So as i know, Roger said this before Saturday's final. Anyway, it's great, it's just simply Roger!

17 GS, 7 Wimbledon, 78 ATP win. Go for: 18 GS, 8 Wimbledon! And a nice comment from Rogi after Dubai win: Question: Tomas said earlier he was glad that he's playing you in the final because he thinks he can beat you. Federer: Good for him". I love his comments.

FEDERER'S#1FAN

I think it was a clever choice of Roger not going to participate in that ITPL event. He needs to focus on staying heathy and saving his energy.

By the way, I think ITPL it's like the exhibition events in Abu Dhabi and Kooyong, Australia.

@SHORTLAND & KEMNA
Very Welcome.
I saw the official entry list of IW. I came to know Ferrer is not playing. Yes He & Delpo is not in great shape. Delpo even lost to our fellow Indian Somdev. So I do hope Roger will finish 4th after winning IW. Also he can gain plenty in Miami as he did not participate in 2013

Howdy, Kemna. :)

@Vishakha,

ITPL sounds like a commercial abomination of Tennis much like IPL is, of Cricket. I'm glad Roger is not participating. Funny how they call it "Bhupathi's brainchild" - the pattern was well established with the Indian Cricket League, the Indian Premier League, the Indian Badminton League, the Indian-I-Don't-Care-League.
