Indian Wells: the draw

05.03.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger will meet a qualifier in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells. He would then play the winner of the match between Kei Nishikori (ATP 21) and Tommy Haas (ATP 12) in the round of the last sixteen. A likely opponent after that is Stanislas Wawrinka who is in the same half of the draw as Roger - the two could meet in the quarters.

Two rounds of doubles might help Federer/Wawrinka's singles results in Indian Wells, Miami.

They're also practicing for Davis Cup. Federer's 11-8 DC doubles record came with partners Lorenzo Manta (4-0), Yves Allegro (3-2), George Bastl (1-1), Wawrinka (2-3), Marc Rosset (1-2). So Wawrinka has been Roger's second worst DC partner. Stan's own DC doubles record has been a poor 3-10 (3 home wins came against Ecuador, Portugal, Belgium). Hope DC doesn't negatively affect Roger's ATP results.

Hello Roger! I think, like "boting",to play doubles is a good thing to practise the volley ! You know how much effort you can do, so enjoy yourself ! I'm happy to see you again during one month!!!Good luck

'Doubles...perfect practice': exactly Boting, and it will help Stan who hasn't played for a bit, to shake off some of that 'rust'. It's a shame they're in the same quarter: I would have liked to see a Murray/Wawrinka QF rather than (assuming they both get there) one having to beat the other. Apart from first round, Roger has a tough draw, but with his new-found confidence, new racquet, good health, etc. I'm feeling with will be a good tournament for him. Go Roger, always with you champ,

I see Delpo and Andy Murray are playing doubles as well, in fact a lot of them are. I was surprised to see Delpo was still playing singles at IW with his wrist, but doubles as well? Likewise with Andy Murray, he is playing both and we know his back and fitness will take only so much. I find it quite amusing that Djoko may end up with both Stan and Roger together in the doubles. Having both Stan and Roger beat him recently, I doubt it will be a pretty sight for him, it will be for us though!

I believe in you, so I believe you made the right decision.. Although, I don't think it's a very good idea to play doubles, we'll see. Hope you can concentrate on the singles, like in Dubai. If you can keep your form, everything is possible. You showed us that you are still moving well, still hitting the ball well, still eager. This is the right attitude! The draw isn't easy, but at your current form, there are big chances! Just stay confident and don't overexert yourself! Good luck, Champion!!!

This could be a sign that both Roger and Stan are taking the Davis Cup very seriously this year and are preparing themselves to play the doubles, as potentially, the stronger pair. That will be great treat for me if they do.
I do hope they do not over stretch themselves by playing doubles at IW. It is a lot for Roger to cope with, but he seems very fit for the moment. I trust to his judgement. I am sure there is a method to his madness and he knows what he is doing!
