Roger defeated in final

17.03.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger was defeated 6-3, 3-6, 6-7(3) by Novak Djokovic in today's final in Indian Wells.

Roger started brilliantly, taking a 3-0 lead thanks to aggressive play and great serves, taking the first set. Unfortunately he couldn't continue on the exact same level in the second set, falling behind with an early break. In the decider, Djokovic was a break up again and serving for the set when Roger came back with a fantastic return game to  stay in the match. Later, in the tie-break, Roger was clearly defeated 3-7.

I meant to write: one match too many...

But anyway: I am very happy with Rogers game so far and the way his is able to put things into perspective. So Stefan and Roger made the double this weekend, but not the way they intended ;-)

The team will be at full strength in Miami with both Seve and Stefan at Rogers side. As long as he stays fit and healthy he will play good tennis. If the past few months did proof anything it is that health is everything (no only, but) especially for athletes.

Guimaran - i agree. Staying on the BL too long isn't good.

I am sure Edberg will have some feedback too :)

Congrats on getting back to Top 5 - not that it matters.

Forever Numero Uno

Roger, congrats, but bad strategy!

On base line Novak is more solid than you. You must to be agressive all the time, taking some riscs.
Short cuts, backhands on the line and volleys.... stay on base line is not good ideia!

Hello Roger,
You already played a lot of tennis this year and you are still ahead of the schedule you had in mind at the beginning of this year. This may have been just that one match too much at the time. Unfortunately Novak found his confidence back in that 2nd set. Breaking him when he was serving for the match was excellent, but Novak - 6 years your junior - played that tiebreak better.
Congratulations on having played a very good tournament and hoping to see you back in Miami.

Well done on a fab week at IW Roger, you played some wicked hot tennis - tennis only YOU can play.

I followed your match scores online and only watched the final yesterday - you played sublime tennis even when facing break points. Some of your volleys were eye watering brilliant. There were only a few points that made the difference.

I wish you love and all the best for the rest of the season and beyond - may you flourish and win the big ones going forward.

Big kisses handsome xxxx

Dearest Roger, thank you - it has been such a thrill to watch you play this year, especially at IW. Don't let this one stop you! You are a better player than Novak and next time you will keep your confidence throughout the match and beat him. Go, Maestro! Hope you and your lovely family get some rest now. Love to you all.

You played so well and only a few points decided the match. Novak was crap in the first set, then in the second got into a few rallies which he appears to like so much. So pleased you are up to number 5 and you are playing with confidence again, so good luck in Miami. x
