A perfect start in Miami

21.03.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger booked his place in the third round in Miami with a 6-4, 7-6(4) win over Ivo Karlovic (ATP 53).

Roger served perfectly, dropping only three points on serve during the entire match which he opened with a break, giving him the necessary lead to wrap up the first set. Karlovic could not keep up with Roger's baseline and net play and so our champ also went on to win the second set in the tie-breaker after a total of 75 minutes of play.

Roger will meet either Thiemo de Bakker (ATP 162) or Fernando Verdasco (ATP 29) in the next round.

Florian Mayer pulled out with groin injury. Once again it is Djoko who has the luck and benefits! Why am I not surprised?!

Yep he did, and it was a scratchy performance by Roger that day.
My bet - he's going to have a stroll in the park come Tuesday!

G'night everyone, catch you all later!

Roger played Gasquet at the ATP Finals last November.

Well Roger picks up points with every win here, since he didn't play Miami last year.
In the live ratings, he is in 4th place, ahead of David Ferrer. If he gets past David Ferrer in the QF, he's guaranteed 4th place next week.

Even if he should lose - Ferrer has to win this tournament to deprive Roger of the 4th rank.

A beautiful performance indeed. It is a delight to see you playing.

Fed will play Gasquet next.
That should be a good match up, a nice new challenge for Rog!
