Roger in quarters

25.03.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger defeated Richard Gasquet with a great performance today, booking a spot in the quarter finals in Miami with the 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Roger was in charge right from the start and easily secured the first set 6-1. He only had to be patient until 2-2 in the second set before scoring two breaks to wrap up the win in just 49 minutes.

Our champ will play his quarter final against Japan's Kei Nishikori (ATP 21) on Wednesday.

Roger, I am so disappointed! I woke up a couple of times and looked at the scores. The last time you were a set and a break up , so I was content thinking so you would sew it up in two, straight sets once again. I saw Nishikori was a gutsy player against Ferrer.
I think you are very vulnerable on slower courts and perhaps with the night session. It was playing slower still. Congrats to Nishikori and commiserations to you Rogi.
Have a rest and have a good Davis Cup at Geneva.

I'm so sorry, Roger! Maybe you could have won it in two sets, but sometimes things just aren't going on the right way, your first serve played hide and seek with you. It's really hard to win a match without first serves, and it wasn't an easy match. At the last seven tournament, you reached the semis or better, which is great. Now the quarters, it's stil okay. Welcome back to the TOP4, well done! I wish you the best of luck for the season! Relax and have fun! Always believe in you! CHAMPION!!!!!

Few observations for the defeat
1.Again it's a kind of self-constructed loss. mainly due to very low first service percentage which itself kept you under pressure throughout as a result you committed much more UE than usual.
2.You were so reluctant to hit FH specially down the line when required instead you preferred continuing the rally.
3.You still returning the volley/close to net/overhead near to the opponent when big portion of court remains open.

Mental fatigue also played its part. Roger has not had such a good run in 3 consecutive tournaments since 2012.

Nishikori does have a good flat backhand and can rip the forehand. Roger was off his game and Nishikori is good enough to take advantage of it. Rog can rest now and be fresher than the rest come the next two slams. He's had a good hard court swing, for his age, and his ranking went up. Djoker will own whomever he plays in the final, Nadal included.

Federer hasn't beaten Nadal in the last 4 meetings. While it is imperative for Federer to win matches.. and gain momentum.. he has not shown his mettle when it really counts.

FANS WHO TRULY CARE***

ROG IS RIGHT - WINNING SOLVES EVERYTHING -IT IS IMPORTANT TO WIN SO YOU CAN FIGHT NEXT DAY, FOR THE NEXT MATCH, NEXT WIN.

IF HE HAD WON TODAY , WHO SAYS HE CAN'T BEAT JOKER/NAD? - BIG PLAYERS PLAY TO PLAY THE OTHER BIG PLAYERS.

SO WHILE I UNDERSTAND YOUR LOGIC, REMEMBER ROGER CAN ALWAYS RECOVER FROM A 'BAD WIN' TO BEAT A TOP PLAYER IN THE NEXT MATCH.

REMEMBER:
POSITIVE FAN VALUES + POSITIVE FAN ATTITUDE = POSITIVE FAN BEHAVIOUR

Want to know the truth? Federer is going to lose against Nishikori in the future. Not even going to the usual argument "Fed's backhand is weak on slow surfaces" or "He didn't serve well"..
