Next up: Tursunov

28.05.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger won his second round match at the French Open against Argentina's Diego Schwartzmann (ATP 109) 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

Roger had to work rather hard for the straight-set victory today. "It wasn't as easy as a lot of people expected. In the end, I'm happy to have come through without any problems," Roger commented. Our champion dropped his serve in the third game of the match but thanks to a re-break and another break later on nevertheless secured the first set. The only break in the second set came late as Roger took a 5-4 lead to serve for the set, which he did. Set number three was decided fairly early when Roger secured a break and stayed in the lead all the way, converting his match-ball after 103 minutes.

Roger will now play Dmitry Tursunov (ATP 32), against whom he has won all four matches so far.

Victory was not in doubt but losing the second set in that manner was very unsettling!
That was so unfortunate but you got there in the end. I am sure that match will have been a good match for you to get through. You were tested, you won, you will have learnt what to practice on with Stefan and it must do your confidence the power of good. A good day at the office. Good luck against Gulbis. Go Rogerrrrrrrrr!

Hello Roger
It is almost 1am here down under BUT before I retire wanted to send you my heartiest congratulations on winning this match-Dmitry Tursunov can be a difficult customer. However, a win is a win that's all that matters. Now the 'experts' and so called fans will spend hours and hours telling all and sundry how you should have played or perhaps they will even say becoming a father again is the problem!!
Let them be BUT no criticism from me EVER.
As long as your are healthy.

I never felt the victory was in doubt, Roger was creating too many break opportunities, especially when he needed to. The only upsetting bit was when Roger was 40:0 to take the second set, lost the game, lwent well up on the tie break and lost that to lose the second set. That was very unsettling, but well saved Turnsonov.
Good luck against Gulbis Rogi, you will need to keep your focus there. I will not be able to watch, so I will not jinx you, RG should be easy from now on!

THANKYOU ROGER!!
That was beautiful and exiciting game. Woke up 6am! and enjoyed it soo much.
What I liked the most was the way you turned the game up and reacted strongly after a tough tiebreak. But you played super all the way through.
Go Champ! Go Maestro! Go GOAT!!

Congratulations on the win agains Tursunov. Well done.

The critic in me says there is still a lot of room for improvement.. and it's needed.

Gulbis is being interviewed at the moment on ITV3. What a nice, good looking, intelligent guy.
