Victory in three sets

12.06.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger had to fight back from a set down to reach the quarter-finals in Halle, eventually defeating João Sousa 6-7(8), 6-4 and 6-2.

Roger was not able to make use of several opportunities in the beginning, not converting any of his five break-balls in the opening set. Sousa then went on to clinch the set in the tie-breaker. But Roger then managed to convert his ninth break-point, taking a 4-3 lead and then winning the second set. Another break right at the start of the decider gave our champion the momentum to move right on and clearly win the set 6-2.

Roger will now either meet 2.11m tall Ivo Karlovic or Taiwan's Yen-Hsun Lu.

Save the Semi's Roger. This is the most exciting tournament on grass. The fans seem to actually have a pulse. Dr. I wants you to win, not really, but I do:) Go Roger!

Roger playing an exhibition match against 34-year old Christopher Kas does not give him quality match practice he needs for Wimbledon. Kas has never won an ATP singles match in his life (he lost 2 ATP singles matches played). The unranked Kas fell out of the singles rankings in 2011 (last time he was ranked below 1,000 was 2007). Kas’s best year was mid-2002 to mid-2003, when his ranking was around No. 250 from playing challenger events.

Roger needs more match practice next week.

Envy you too MI5. Geneva is easy to get to for me but the hotels are just way too expensive!

Dutchlady, I can only say that I'm soooooo envious of you. It compensates because I just got tickets to see the Davis Cup in September. Hopefully with Roger playing 3 days in a row!

Enjoy your fabulous day tomorrow at Halle

Pro The Netherlands because we played the more attractive game. Roger will have enjoyed it too! It was not so much Spain playing badly but the Dutch playing so well.

Sounds fantastic Dutchlady! Were the Germans pro Spain or pro The Netherlands? I only saw the last ten minutes so not the goals. I couldn't believe Spain could do so badly!

@fancyfree Watched it with German commentary, being near Halle to watch Roger. Yesterday Dustin Brown crushed the Spaniard and on Friday the 13th we showed the Spanish team how to play attacking football. Like a dream. In the WC Hockey both our men and women teams are in the final. Exciting sports weekend for me! And on Saturday courtside to see Roger in singles AND doubles again!
Happy to be alive! :-)

Hi Roger sometimes its nice to have a surprise and not have to play a quarter final! So, good luck against Nishikori who is a dangerous opponent - as you well know! However you can certainly win if your form is consistently good. So let the force be with you!!

best wishes
Mike
