Roger sails into week two

28.06.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger clearly defeated Santiago Giraldo 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 to secure his spot in the round of the last sixteen in Wimbledon.

Roger took a 2-0 lead to open the match, the one break was enough to secure the set. In the second set, he dominated his opponent more and more, leaving him just one single game. In set number three, Roger had to fight off two break-balls at 3-3, did so successfully and even went on to break Giraldo and finally serve out the match.

Roger will meet the winner of the match between Tommy Robredo (ATP 22) and Jerzy Janowicz (ATP 25) in the round of the last sixteen.

SHATIR, as usual your arguments are based on weaseling, lies and/or ignorance. You've really lost your wheels in your neurotic desire to respond to my posts.

Roddick confirmed that players sign agreements with the ATP as "independent contractors".

ATP, as head contractor, signs head contracts with tennis tournaments.

Which means, ATP tennis players are sub-contractors, duh. (I write contracts with multi-bilion dollar companies)

2012 Olympics: Roger's level was worse than Wimbledon.

SOMNATH11099,

That is my fear as well. Roger needs to be fresh for his match against Nadal or Raonic.

If Roger hears that we know, hopefully he will focus harder. One can only hope.

@TONYN
Right you are.I afraid Stan will drain down Roger.

Roger hit 41 winners, 20 unforced errors against No. 22 Robredo (29-22 on grass, 0 grass titles, worst surface)

Wawrinka hit 55 winners, 8 unforced errors against better grass player No. 26 Lopez (58-28 on grass, 2 grass titles, best surface)

Wawrinka and, more so, Nadal are a different level.

Roger, improve your ground game & focus -- you cannot afford a long battle in next two matches. Get back to practice court. Don't let off-court distractions or accolades affect ur next match.

Roger, did u lose 6-4, 6-7(5), 2-6 to Wawrinka in Monte Carlo final due to sloppy play... or to help your Swiss buddy re-build momentum for Davis Cup? Monte Carlo is Stan's only success since AO.

Your last 3 matches against Stan have gone the distance. Sloppy 3-set battles against Stan in both 2012 Shanghai and 2013 Indian Wells possibly exhausted u before straight-set losses to Murray and Nadal -- costing u potential titles.

Stan seems to try his hardest against you nowadays. Are u?

Thank God it's over!
