Ninth Wimbledon final!

04.07.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger clearly defeated Milos Raonic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 today to set up a Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic, it is the ninth Wimbledon final in Roger's career.

"That was a big victory, I really had to focus on every point. I know that is always the case at this stage but it was hard. I had to be very careful on my service games and I knew there were only going to be a few chances on his serve, but I am very, very happy," Roger said.

Roger was fully in control of the match, offering Raonic just one single break-ball in the entire match. Roger seized a total of three points, early in the first set and at 4-4 in set two and three.

On Sunday, Roger has the chance to break new ground once again: pushing his number of Grand Slam wins to 18 and winning a record eigth title in Wimbledon when he meets Novak Djokovic. The two players have met 34 times so far, Roger has won 18 of the encounters.

Fancy - Roger played classic grass court tennis in an era of baseliners on a grass court that was so dead and slow that even slice shots never zip through. The crowd really appreciated the net play today, it was nostalgic at times. That is why Roger is a classic, he plays a style that can never be copied, that represents the evolution of tennis styles, with balance and grace.

He wanted that title badly and he's hurting knowing he played so well. I don't think I saw The Final in 2008.

Such a shame :(
However there are two positive sides of this, first that you proved that you can still play amazing tennis, second, if Nole lost this, he would be in mental problem, and he would be very likely to loose future finals vs Nadal. So now he has confidence, so he can stop Nadal of winning more GS than Federer..
