Rafa beats Roger in straight sets

22.04.2007 | Tennis

Rafael Nadal beat Roger 6-4, 6-4 Sunday to win his third straight Monte Carlo Masters title and extend his winning streak on clay to 67. It is his eighth Masters Series title and he has not been beaten on clay since April 2005.

The left-handed Spaniard, who did not drop a set in the tournament, is the first man since Ilie Nastase (1971-1973) to win the Monte Carlo title for the third year in a row.

"It is an honour to be up against Roger here in Monte Carlo and to win for the third time," Rafa admitted after the win.

Roger made 38 unforced errors - half on his forehand - and the Spaniard won on his second match point when the world number one sent a backhand long.

"Congratulations to Rafa," said Roger. "What he has achieved is fantastic. I will try again to beat him in Rome, Hamburg and here in Monte Carlo next year."

I hope Roger watched the Nadal/Canas final in Barcelona. I haven't seen the stats yet but I don't think either of them made more than 15 unforced errors throughout the match. Also, their mind games had been on throughout.

Hello R'Team
If you have been reading the fan-mail....,it is very obvious...Roger has created a "doubt" in his fans' mind...whether roger will sustain the pressure.Roger, you have to get even tougher....Since i have never witnessed your matches in person

Hi Roger,
ich hätte zwischen monte carlo und rom noch ein turnier auf sand eingeschoben, damit nadals vorsprung im champions race nicht zu groß wird bis zu den french open. es geht nun auch darum, die nummer 1 zu verteidigen.

I’m sorry for your loss to Rafa again. I weren’t able to watch the match live so I don’t know what the situation was that time. I think, however, you’ve been preparing for your clay for a long time, and I believe, in spite of what others’ sa

Dear Roger,
Last week's loss is still bothering me 'A LOT'.
After I watched the taped match at that night(on TSN in Canada), I was so sad and disappointed. It was so strange why you were always playing like a real underdog agnst Nadal on clay.(you seems
