Rafa beats Roger in straight sets

22.04.2007 | Tennis

Rafael Nadal beat Roger 6-4, 6-4 Sunday to win his third straight Monte Carlo Masters title and extend his winning streak on clay to 67. It is his eighth Masters Series title and he has not been beaten on clay since April 2005.

The left-handed Spaniard, who did not drop a set in the tournament, is the first man since Ilie Nastase (1971-1973) to win the Monte Carlo title for the third year in a row.

"It is an honour to be up against Roger here in Monte Carlo and to win for the third time," Rafa admitted after the win.

Roger made 38 unforced errors - half on his forehand - and the Spaniard won on his second match point when the world number one sent a backhand long.

"Congratulations to Rafa," said Roger. "What he has achieved is fantastic. I will try again to beat him in Rome, Hamburg and here in Monte Carlo next year."

From someone who cannot play tennis at all, here a few tips:

Wow! There are so many people that are really pulling for you, Roger. I know I am definitely one of them. Keep trying. There is always next time. As long as you are healthy and can still play, there will always be a next time!

That's okay, Roger. Just too many unforced errors there. We still love you despite the loss and you're still the greatest tennis player to us faithful fans. Besides, didn't you make it all the way to the finals again(!) and without dropping a set? Tha

Hi Fans,

We are getting closer to having Nadal vs Canas in the final of this week`s ATP tournament in Barcelona. I hope Federer will carefully watch this game, guess he would have something to learn by analyzing how these two guys will try to beat each

Dear Roger,
Good-luck at Rome!!! You lost at Monte-Carlo but now we must forget it. Rome it's another tournament and there it will be better. You played well and I didn't see an incrredible play at Nadal. You was better than him like always and I'm not s

I like to see you play best tennis. Although Nadal perform very good on clay, I am sure that you are able to beat him with more confidence and concentration. It's perfect for you to win the French open. Please grasp the opportunity this year t

Don't worry about Master Series title. Do you remember Guillermo Coria won almost all clay-court titles in 2004 except Hamburg which you won by beating Coria but you lost 3rd round on Rolland Garros againsts Kurta. My point is Gaston Gaudio lost againsts

Hello Roger,

What's up Roger? I agree with a lot of people that wrote here. Common. To really be the best player ever you NEED WIN Rafa on clay. And everyone knows that you can win him. Only looser people can say things like "when Rafa is not here I ca

That was your worst match against Rafa. You were too tentative and undecisive.
You need to use the net more and be a lot more committed to your shots. You looked unsure of which shots to play when.
I hope you have a look at last year tapes and thi
