A convincing start
Roger began his bid for a first Rome Masters title with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Nicolas Almagro today.
"I think it was a good performance. Nicolas is a good player, especially on clay, and the first round is always difficult. I hope I can play even better in the second round," he commented.
Roger won with minimum effort, raising his game to break the Spaniard in his opening service game and then again in the first game of the second set. He clearly dominated the match – a fact that is underlined with the 66-54 statistic winners-statistic. Roger never lost his own serve and only faced one break ball, but had five of them himself.
Our star will enjoy a day off on Wednesday and will meet either Filippo Volandri oder Richard Gasquet in the next round.
Yesterday, Roger met Rafael Nadal in doubles for the first time. Nadal teamed with Carlos Moya and Roger played with his Davis Cup teammate Stanislas Wawrinka - Nadal/Moya took home the match 6-4, 7-6 (5) in the first round of the Rome Masters.

No one is asking you to win all the time, but you have got to re evaluate your game. Most of these guys beating you these days use to praise your game and remark on how invicible you are, what happened my friend?
This is unacceptable, period.
