Final: Roger vs. Nadal

19.05.2007 | Tennis

Roger rallied past Carlos Moya 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 today to advance to the Hamburg Masters final. He is most certainly looking to end a streak in which he has gone four straight tournaments without a title. And it certainly promises looks like an interesting encounter: opponent is no one less than Rafael Nadal!

"It's nice to come back from one set down," he said after the match. "I came out of it but I am still missing too much. You have to believe that you can come back."

Moya, a 30-year-old veteran who was ranked No. 1 in the world in 1999 but has now dropped to No. 36, had never beaten Roger in six previous meetings. "Today was the day to beat him; I had a feeling I could beat him," Moya said. "But at important moments, he brings out his best."

Roger saved three set points before losing the first set. Serving for the second at 5-3, he allowed Moya to save three set points and then dropped his serve. But a forehand winner in the next game put our star even. Roger broke serve for a 4-2 lead in the third and was on his way.

"I felt I was controlling the match," Moya said. "But with Federer, you can't expect to beat him until it's over. I had some break points but he came up with some great shots."

akycrack - internet channels? Can you provide a link?

Unfortunately, I'm on lamentable dial up connection - as I'm living away from home, studying. But still... would be cool to be able to watch highlights and such if these 'net channels provide?

Cesar, without trying to sound smug here; try to cut Feds some slack - after all, he is out on court against the current King of Clay, Rafa Nadal. But anyway, the match isn't over yet, Feds held pretty convincingly in that first game, and did just manage

I am sorry to see how many unforced errors you are doing today. Please, you need to play exactly you played in the first point to 2x5. Just put the ball to the Nadal's side and let him make the unforced errors. Many times I told here in this cha

Hate to say it but... that was a fast set. What's actually happenin with Feds? Unfortunately I'm resigned to watching via the online scoreboard - Australian tv doesn't rate tennis very high in regards to ratings (it's up there along with lawn bowls and sy

Roger, your game against Nadal is burlesque. I don't know what to say. :(

Why dont you slice the ball more ??? - you are just missing all your backhands. Moreover I dont think you can stand and rally from the back with Nadal - not on clay. Change your tactics to something else - not sure what though - c'mon lets win this match

I am sorry that you did not read my post. I told you many times, FIRST SERVICE, FIRST SERVICE, FIRST SERVICE, and you are not playing with the first service.

I am sorry to say, but we will not win Nadal without your first service.
