Roger moves on

17.08.2007 | Tennis

Roger booked his path to the quarter-finals with a 7-6(5), 7-5 win over Marcos Baghdatis (CYP).

While Thursday's 40-degree Celsius heat drained many players, Roger’s habit of training in Dubai left him all but immune to the sweltering Midwest. "The problem is more the humidity. The sweat is all over. The hand gets wet, and it's hard to hold the grip," he said. "Dubai was way hotter than this today, so this is actually pretty mild."

Of his opponent in the next round, Nicolas Almagro, he said: "It was dangerous playing him. He's got a wonderful kick serve, great motion and nice forehand. He's a danger player from the back. Massive power and he's a big guy.”

The match is scheduled to start around 2 p.m. on Center Court today.

Dearest Roger,

What a relief! It wasn't exactly a pretty match, but the result of a victory for you--and in straight sets!--is the important thing in weather like this. Good luck against Almagro. Hopefully the weather will be a little better. I wis

It was a difficult match and both of you seemed to be struggling with the heat and energy, thats why there were so many unforced errors and the play seemed very sloppy. It's a win and you shiuld take this title. There are no players left worthy of taking

Hi Roger! I liked seeing you sweat this one out! Don't ask me why, maybe it showed the raw fighter side of you that we see so much in Rafa. Sweaty, drenched, not worrying about your hair,,,,and best of all, not seeming to care about it!
Good luck in
