Three sets and now the semis

18.08.2007 | Tennis

Roger had to struggle for his ticket into the Cincinnati semis, defeating  Nicolas Almagro 6-3 3-6 6-2.

Roger was unusually erratic as he dropped his first set of the week before recovering his poise to set up a clash with Lleyton Hewitt. "I actually think I played better today than I did yesterday," he told reporters. "The only problem was I had one really bad game which cost me the second set. I still thought my serving was good today and I hit better from the baseline."

Looking for his 50th career title, Roger broke in the sixth game but immediately dropped his serve before breaking for a second time to take the opening set.

Dear Roger,

Congratulations on your win against Almagro. Again the match having to be played in such high temperatures. Good luck in the semis against Hewitt. Take care.

Dear Roger,
Congratulations on yesterday's important win (pt totals looking good). Making it into the Semis in this horrible weather signifies that you are obviously playing fine. Good luck today, if good thoughts help, you have mine.

We agree. You did play better against Almagro and seemed to break him rather easily. One bad game, as Nadal can tell you from Wimbledon, can change everything. Fortunately, you got it back on track and won.

What was bothersome was that the comment
