Perfect US Open start

28.08.2007 | Tennis

Roger began his quest for a fourth straight U.S. Open title with an easy straight-set win yesterday. Our star posted a 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 victory over American qualifier Scoville Jenkins (ATP 319). He needed just 92 minutes and faced only two break points - saving both - against his powerful serve.

"I thought it was a good match, tough match," said Federer. "I didn't allow my opponent many chances on my serve. I was serving well. Unfortunately for him he double faulted quite a bit on breakpoints, which obviously helped. It was a good opening match for me."

The second round opponent for our number one is another qualifier, Paul Capdeville. The Chilean outlasted Germany's Rainer Schuettler 5-7, 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-3.

You were sublime in black tonight. What a dream. Thank you for playing such a wonderful match. This was the one and only match I could watch you playing "live" as I'm traveling all over until a week AFTER the Open finishes - and I hate

Roger just saw your match tonight with the Chilean. You looked so wonderful in black. What a great fashion statement. Only you can pull it off with such success. Your playing was phenominal as usual and I am so anxious to see you play Isner on Saturday. H
