Roger cruises on

30.08.2007 | Tennis

Roger easily advanced to the third round past Chile's Paul Capdeville 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 in 89 minutes.  "I'm very happy the way I played. I think I did well," he said. "I had to struggle a bit through the second set but I tried to stay aggressive and I think it all worked out."

Roger raced to the first set in 23 minutes leaning heavily towards serve and volley tactics to shake up the South American claycourt specialist. What Capdeville lacked in technique he made up for with heart and the Chilean actually broke Roger’s serve to go 3-1 up in second set, only for the world number one to punish the upstart by winning the next four games in a row on his way to a 2-0 lead. Capdeville continued to fight but even though our defending champ relaxed a little as the night wore on, the Chilean could not find a way back in.

Seeking his 12th Slam crown and fourth US Open title in a row, Roger is chasing Pete Sampras' all-time Slam title record of 14. His third-round opponent is John Isner, the 6-foot-9 American who only a few months ago was playing college tennis for Georgia. With fans barking for their favorite Bulldog, Isner followed up his first-round upset of No. 26 Jarkko Nieminen by beating Rik de Voest of South Africa 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

Congrats Roger on an easy win. Good to see your Smash shot like Pete. Hope you will handle the monster serves from Isner. All the best.

I used to think that boys had forgotten their tennis shoes when they played with dark shoes. It’s because I started playing tennis when the dress code was like it still is in Wimbledon. (Yet my problem is at socks and shoes level!)
But if YOU wear that,

Nice win Roger! You look awesome in the black outfit, and your fans appreciate it very much. The best to you against Isner. Try to block out the crowd if they get to noisy for Isner. Go Roger!

Great to read that you're winning! Gosh it's so frustrating cause I can't find any station that's airing the US Open here in the Philippines. Could it be mg cable provider, I don't know...

Hope you teach Isner a lesson or two and make your first enc
