Switzerland drops out of World Group

23.09.2007 | Tennis

Switzerland has dropped out of the World Group after having been defeated by the Czech Republic this weekend.

Roger had managed to even the score, 2-2, in the first match on Sunday, beating number ten ranked Tomas Berdych 7-6, 7-6, 6-3. But in the following match, Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka had to face a 6-7, 3-6, 6-7 defeat in the decisive fifth rubber, giving the Czechs the victory in Prague and a place in the 2008 World Group.

Switzerland will start the next Davis Cup season in Europe/Africa Zone Group I, a place they have not been in since 1994. They will play countries such as Croatia, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Latvia, Georgia and Macedonia or Luxembourg as well possibly Belarus and Israel.

Yes, a good effort for switzerland. However, I am not certain that it's a good thing that ATP will earmark ranking points for players on Davis Cup. It is a different thing than the individual tournaments, and could possibly be disadvantageous to some play

Its okay, Switzerland is sure to make it to the World Group next year. Considering you play very well during Davis Cup and Stanislas's game has been looking better over the last year or so, you 2 can turn into a very tough team!!!(along with Yves)

**BlueZen, yes, I wish that for Roger too. It would be such a beauty, and he can do it, no questions asked! And I would like to hear all the detractors backpedal, too. Their fickleness and blindness is so annoying.
Dear Roger, a good win again against

A very good place to go against Berdych and defeat him. It is a good preview of the Olympics, for guys like Berdych, Djokovic, etc.
Switzerland did well, and Roger FEderer compensates the country 1000 times for not getting further.

ROGER,

SE QUE ESTE RESULTADO LO UNICO QUE VA A OCACIONAR ES QUE TENGAS UN RETO TODAVIA MAS GRANDE, REGRESAR A TU PAIS AL GRUPO MUNDIAL.
USTEDES HICIERON SU MEJOR ESFUERZO PERO ELLOS TUVIERON UN POQUITO DE SUERTE.
SALUDOS DESDE MEXICO!!!!!!
