Open 500-status for Basel

Roger welcomed the announcement today that the tournament in Basel will receive “Open 500”-status in the ATP calendar as of 2009.

 

"This is fantastic news for the ATP Tour and I am delighted in particular that my hometown Basel has been awarded "500" status for 2009. The ATP is making some exciting changes to ensure the sport continues to grow on a global level."

 

The “500” category, consisting of ten tournaments (five of which in Europe), will be the third level after the four Grand Slams and the eight planned Masters Series tournaments (hitherto nine).

Congratulation with new tournament to Basel in Switzerland!!!! It will be organised the third level....It's interresting tournament
I hope people in Switzerland and people all over the world will be enjoyed and accepted this tourment as well and i hop

This is great news... I really feel that the ATP have taken this decision in recognition of all Roger has achieved so far in his quest for greatness on the tennis court, so congratulations to Basel and congratulations to Roger too!

Great that they include Basel so that Roger can compete at home every year! But I must say I'm said that Hamburg is no where to be seen. Hamburg is the special place for Roger & fans because that is where 4 Masters shields came from and where Nadal's stre

To hear such good news is just fantastic.I know i never will be able to see this ,as i live in Australia.But since I am a born Swiss,this makes me very proud.Hopefully they will show it here in Australia as well.At least a piece of Switzerland

That's good news for all of us expecially this is roger's homeland.. swiss fans will be great to see this happen.. they can watch roger more than usual.
