Back in action - and winning

17.10.2007 | Tennis

Roger claimed a swift victory over Robby Ginepri 7-6(2), 6-4 in his first match of the Madrid Masters 2007.

"I took a rest so I could be 100 percent here, and now I'm fresh and eager to play here again," he said before the match. After a fairly long break since his fourth US Open title in September, Roger showed a few weaknesses in his game, but remained a long way ahead of his 72-ranked rival. "I was struggling in the beginning a little bit, but I served well to get out of trouble. I'm happy I won this first match, for me it was a big win today." Roger had to play two tiebreakers against Ginepri in the seventh game of the first set, but thanks to an ace and a service point he dominated the situation. In the second set, our star breezily went 4-2 ahead and served 10 aces after breaking the American's service in the eighth game.

Roger will next play the winner between Argentina's Agustin Calleri and Guillermo Canas on Wednesday.

Bravo Roger! And now... a BIG match tomorrow. I'm both a little apprehensive and excited and praying... you have it all to beat Canas. May you have inner strength, may you be alm and play your game, may you have the patience to just hit them back safely a

Roger, it was so nice to see you back on the court. I am a little worried about your next opponent but I think you will step it up, just stay with him, he is a grinder and doesn't let up.
Kind regards,

Good going Roger. You were right to rest up. Now you are really going to roll over all the other players. Just wish I could get the matches from Madrid but unfortunately I cannot so I depend on your web site to give me all your good news. I know you will
