A successful start
Roger shifted his impeccable tennis back on course, but had to survive a scare from Germany’s Michael Berrer (ATP 56) to reach the second round of the Swiss Indoors in Basel today: 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Against Berrer, Roger ran out a pair of love games to start and concluded the rapid-fire opening set in 21 minutes with a clean forehand into the corner. But that was where the tide turned, with Berrer finding a surprise 4-0 lead in the second set with our star able to break back only once, in the fifth game. Roger dropped the set but then stepped up a gear in the third, securing the 4-2 break and finally the set.
"I'm through to the second round and I have a day off on Wednesday," said Roger after his victory against Berrer, hulking 100kg and 1.90 metres, wondering what all the fuss was about. "It couldn't be better."
He will next meet Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro or the American Michael Russell.

And do your best and run toward the trophy!
Don't forget this is at Basel!
Wish you all the best!

Hello Roger
Congratulations on winning 1st round Basel in your country--exciting for both you, and the Swiss who must be very very proud of
I hope you will be OK with this surface in next round. Good Luck! You are the best!
Always hard to play in your hometown and country, the people are so demanding.
Just play your game as you did and in the end you won and that is what matters. And I enjoyed the match and the great shots you played again. Congratulations Roger.
