Roger reaches quarters

Top seed Roger, who had been just two points away from defeat against world number 137 Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo in the second round, rarely looked in danger as he saw off Frenchman Gael Monfils 6-3, 6-4.

 

Monfils threatened early on, breaking Roger in the third game. Roger broke straight back for 2-2 and took Monfils' serve again in the eighth game for a 5-3 lead after the Frenchman sent a big forehand wide. Our star clinched the opening set when Monfils hit a service return long. Roger broke his opponent in the third game of the second set and was leading 4-2 when Monfils saved three break points.

 

Roger next meets either Spaniard Tommy Robredo or Argentine David Nalbandian, who play later on Thursday.

great match yday against nalby by roger, im sure all us federer fans have been waiting for 2day's match, hope federer comes out with his foot on the accelerator, and never takes it off until we hear GAME SET MATCH FEDERER.
