Roger battles into semis

25.04.2008 | Tennis

Roger rallied from a set down to defeat David Nalbandian 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 Friday and advanced to the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters.

"This was my best match of the tournament. I was happy with my movement and the level of play was excellent," said Roger. "I could have served a little better but the statistics were good. David's a great player and a wonderful ball-striker. He has great movement and anticipation."

Nalbandian had won half of his previous 16 meetings with Roger, including the last two, and edged the first set without facing a break point. But Roger hit back in magnificent style, reeling off four games in a row to clinch the second set before sweeping to victory.

Roger will face Novak Djokovic in the last four.

Hi Roger,
I'm writing to say you played extremely well against Djokovic and would have won even if he hadn't retired. What poor sportsmanship on his part to quit when he was behind! He had been playing OK just not as good as you. The commentator said th

One of Roger's fans predicted that Djoko will pull off a sissy today, either retiring or calling the trainer or breathing problem. I am not buying his retiring on Roger. Roger was sick in the semis of AO and played to the end. Djoko knew that Rogi will de

Djokovic just retired because he saw himself losing! Had be been winning, the story would have been different. He did not want Roger to beat him fairly, since Djokovic won the last games! What a chicken

Roger Federer beat Djokovic 6-3, 3-2 (Djokovic retired after being broken). Roger won a convincing 56% of the 104 points in their 1 hour 11 min match, and broke the Serb three times. His first serve was only 52%.

If any journalist tries to dampen Feder
