A comfortable victory

15.05.2008 | Tennis

Roger continued his progress at the Hamburg Masters with ease, securing a 6-3, 6-2 victory over unseeded Swede Robin Söderling today.

"I controlled things from the baseline and I served well when I had to," Roger said after the match. "He has a big game, a big serve, but I retrieved it well and scrambled well. That was important."

The match was already over after just 64 minutes. One break was enough for Roger to take home the first set, Söderling not seeing any opportunities to break our star. He did manage to do so in the second set but was eventually not able to make the break - with Roger winning two games on his opponent's serve.

Roger will meet Spain's Fernando Verdasco, a clay specialist, in the quarter finals. But that suits our champion perfectly well on his way to Paris. Opportunities to play matches on clay on a very high level are the best preparation. "I have trained with Verdasco. He's got the game to beat the best guys. I have to watch out."

RAFA is playing better and better. He needed some matches to be back on top of his game. He will beat Djerko, and he can be very fierce specially when he does not respect an opponent.
We want a ROGER/RAFA final for Sunday. As Rogerholics we want a match

I'm watching that djerk's match. I'm totally with Montanes, and I'm still positive. Too bad he lost the first set, but he for sure can come back!
That Djerk is just fragile!

brain999666, sorry to hear that u hurt yourself, hope u r ok now, and that u get better. :)

Tilou, yeh i agree with u, it would be bad if djerk became no.2, because i can just imagine roger having to face rafa, and then djerk in any grandslam or other
