Through to semis in four

04.06.2008 | Tennis

Roger rallied to defeat Fernando Gonzalez (CHI/ATP 25) 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 and reach the semi final at his 16th consecutive Grand Slam event.

"There was a lot of pressure, he was hitting the corners and I didn't know exactly how I needed to play him," said Roger. "It's never easy against him, but I played a good match."

Roger had played a very shaky opening set, missing several easy shots while Gonzalez, using his powerful forehand but also making some surprising backhands down the line, took the lead. Our star, however, righted the ship in the second stanza and ultimately cruised to victory, with the help of 11 aces and five breaks.

Roger will play on Friday against the winner from Spanish fifth seed David Ferrer and flamboyant Gaël Monfils, final Frenchman in the home field.

I cannot watch the match but I can hear what is going on while slamtracker is on. Sounds like Monfils is determined to win this. But Roger keeps coming back. Sounds like this is not one of Roger's best games but I am still believing that he will win agains

Roger's broken serving for the match, Monfils is being coached can u imagine that. Roger better break back to start serving for the 4th set. What a match. Not exactly as easy as I thot it would go,. He would hardly defeat Nadal if he continues like this

This 5-1 ain't any good...it's somehow getting a mysterious thing. What the hell is that?

Roger needs to get his act together. Always giving up service breaks.

He needs to try breaking here otherwise we'll be sitting at 5 all, and Monfils will take the set.

It ain't over till it's over; I am hoping Fed can serve out the set here. He has 2 breaks, but he can't take anything for granted. Go Fed!
