Through to semis in four

04.06.2008 | Tennis

Roger rallied to defeat Fernando Gonzalez (CHI/ATP 25) 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 and reach the semi final at his 16th consecutive Grand Slam event.

"There was a lot of pressure, he was hitting the corners and I didn't know exactly how I needed to play him," said Roger. "It's never easy against him, but I played a good match."

Roger had played a very shaky opening set, missing several easy shots while Gonzalez, using his powerful forehand but also making some surprising backhands down the line, took the lead. Our star, however, righted the ship in the second stanza and ultimately cruised to victory, with the help of 11 aces and five breaks.

Roger will play on Friday against the winner from Spanish fifth seed David Ferrer and flamboyant Gaël Monfils, final Frenchman in the home field.

Good job, Roger, getting past that raucous crowd. I suspect you'll have your hands full with them on Sunday, too, because they know how much the win means to you.

I didn't know of the live web coverage until mid-way through the 4th, but apparently you

Congratulations, Roger, not an easy win at all but you persevered. Well done! I kept reminding myself while watching you on tv what I wrote to you yesterday - fight, never give up and have faith. Not that you read my post but you did exactly that. What

I just learned Roger won "myson' of French.

Congratulations, our champion!

This 2008 is for you at RG, Roger the GREATEST ever player. You just need to be in the best form on Sunday against Nadal.

Dear fans,

Roger,

Nadal's strength is not only his top-spin forehand but also his ability to focus throughout a long match. As far as I observed, you tend to lose your focus when you are leading, i.e. the finals in Monte Carlo and Hambourg this year. And many mor

Jeux-Set-Match, I agree with you 100%. Although I myself have been nervous and thinking the worst might happen at times, I've tried very hard to stay calm and hope Roger is feeling well and strong. I have not lost faith in Roger. We saw how strongly he ca

You are where you deserve to be, to play the Final! Now in time that is again with the Nadal, seems that necessary of an extra condiment. You wanna bet? If you win you are invited for a lunch in my house when you come Portugal, if

Hi everyone, Please think of this... Please do not think bad about or say bad stuff about other players. Today Roger was able to scrape through. Most of you guys were saying and praying that Nadal would have to play for 5 hrs and Roger just 2 hrs. Well al

World number one Roger Federer saw off a brave challenge from Gael Monfils to set up a dream final against Rafael Nadal at the French Open.

Congratulations to Roger on his victory against Monfils. I think Rog knew that this was not going to be easy, and in a way, this was a good test for him for the final, in the sense that although Nadal does more with the ball in terms of spins, etc, this
