40th victory in Wimbledon

25.06.2008 | Tennis

Roger marched into the third round of Wimbledon today after handling Robin Soderling in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (3).

"I'm happy with how I played," Roger said. "It was difficult to see the ball with the low afternoon sun. I'm moving well and even though I was broken for the first time on grass in 2008, I had an excellent performance. I hope to build on it."

Our champ pounded out 15 aces against the overmatched Söderling and committed no single double-fault, showing a complete control over his serve and tallying just 16 unforced errors. The same couldn’t be said for Söderling whose 30 unforced errors crippled any opportunity he may have had coming in. Roger dropped his first serve of the season on grass though, but saved the final set in great manner.

Roger’s next match on Friday will be either against France’s Marc Gicquel (ATP 53) or Serbia’s Ilja Bozoljac (ATP 197).

What I think is so classy about Roger is that he has virtually ignored al the comments that have been made about him. He just smiles and changes the subject, never saying anything bad about his opponents and goes on about his business. He has shown from t

Serena might be arrogant and pompous but somehow, I want her to win. I like Amelie Mauresmo though, cool and quiet but I want it to be a tight match, at least Mauresmo should drag it to a 3rd long set.

Well, Hewitt won but the bad news is that he will play Roger in the 4th Round on Monday and it's not so good news for Hewitt. Good luck to you Roger remember he was former world no 1 and will fight with his last breath, pls don't take anything for granted

Twice during the match today they showed a close-up of Roger's wrist band, the part of it on the inner side of his arm (just below his palm). There is some sort of logo on it; its not the Nike swoosh or 'RF'.. Anybody know what it is?

Hey fans watching from the Wimbledon live streaming, did you see the slow motion replay of Roger smiling at the end when he took off his wrist band and his bandana to send to the spectators? They showed it twice. Roger was so beautiful and looked so hap
