Fabulous Roger

02.07.2008 | Tennis

Roger stretched his winning streak on grass to 64 matches today to reach the Wimbledon semifinals by beating Mario Ancic 6-1, 7-5, 6-4. The win marked his 39th straight victory at Wimbledon, where he has won the last five titles and stands 43-4 at his favourite major venue.

"I'm playing great and serving excellent," Roger commented. "I had a lot of aces again, that always helps. It was a tough day with the rain delay and it broke my momentum a bit. But I got back into the match and played well all the way through."

Roger rocketed over three aces in the final game as he served out his success in on hour, 41 minutes, clocking 15 aces and a mere six unforced errors. Our king of grass calmly waited out a two-hour, 12-minute rain interruption after cautiously putting away a 20-minute first set - he lost just one point on serve - and standing 1-1 in the second when light drizzle moved in.  Back on court and lifting the second set with a break from an Ancic double-fault for 6-5, Roger consolidated. He then applied even more pressure, forcing Croatia's Ancic to struggle through ten deuces and a 16-minute opening game of the third.

Roger will race the winner from Russian Marat Safin and Spain's Feliciano Lopez in the semi-finals on Friday.

The favourite in UK to win Wimbly this year is RAFA NADAL, more than 70%.
I´m so frightened this time because Roger is not strong enough yet because of the mono, and RAFA runs as a rabbit all around the field, in spite of his knees (!!) and whatever supp

I am soooooooo proud of Rainer!!!
He did not need coaching from the box, or new shoes to show that Nadal is all bluff!

i wonder if Bored took the ball out of the box. Maybe he was rubbing the picture of the ball on the box.

Boris Becker just said “I am sure Federer is watching and he won’t be too upset about it”. Right!

Willsson,
Bjorn Bored did not know what to do with his time when he received the crystal ball from Brad Gilbert… so he decided to make predictions. He must have finally found out that he got a cheap $9.95 (for 2) crystal ball!

TriniMum127, ditto. I agree with your points. As well, Nadal also played an exhausted Mikhail Youzhny in the R16 who had back-to-back long five setters (had Youzhny been healthy, Roddick been match fit or Stepanek been hot, Nadal might have had a tougher
