Round three
Roger extended his U.S. Open winning streak to 29 straight matches with a second-round victory against Brazilian qualifier Thiago Alves 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.
Our second seed was made to work by the unfancied world number 137, who allowed just four breaks of serve in the match, but the result was never in doubt as Roger cantered to victory in two hours and 14 minutes.
Roger is seeking his fifth straight victory at Flushing Meadows, something that was last achieved 1924 by Bill Tilden (USA). He looked in imperious form at times, firing 19 aces and 54 winners to quell the early enthusiasm of his opponent. But he also produced an uncharacteristic 46 unforced errors, especially with volleys and his forehand.
Roger will meet either Chris Guccione of Australia or 28th-seeded Czech Radek Stepanek in the third round.

thank you very much--always glad to lend a helping jab. he he
