Switzerland back in the World Group

20.09.2008 | Tennis

Roger and Stan made everything clear in the doubles today, bringing Switzerland back into next year's elite Davis Cup World Group.

The Olympic gold medal team defeated Belgium's Xavier Malisse and Olivier Rochus 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3, 6-3 for a 3-0 lead in the best-of-five playoff series.

Half an hour before the beginning of the match Roger and Stan were honoured for their achievements in Beijing. Sports minister Samuel Schmid and the president of Swiss Olympic, Jörg Schild, were also present to congratulate the two stars who received standing ovations.

Roger described the ambiance as "great. It is so nice to celebrate this triumph after last year's disappointment." Asked about next year, he said: "My schedule is a lot better than this year."
