Switzerland meets the US

23.09.2008 | Tennis

The Swiss Davis Cup team will play the United States in the first round of the 2009 Davis Cup competition (March 6-8, 2009).

The Swiss team gained promotion to the elite World Group last weekend after a one-year absence. The match in the US could feature the world's number one ranked doubles pair, the Bryan twins, against Roger Federer/Stanislas Wawrinka, who won gold in the doubles event at the Beijing Olympics.

The Swiss played three of the last ten encounters abroad, one of which - 2007 against the Czech Republic - they lost. The US team around Patrick McEnroe last won the Cup in 2007 and lost in this year's semi-final against Spain last weekend.

Severin Lüthi, the captain of the Swiss team, said it will be a difficult task against the USA, the 32-times-champion. "The Americans have a lot of strong singles players as well as the Bryan brothers, the leading doubles team in the world. But our team has chances against any other nation." Switzerland is the only team in the World Group next to the USA and Spain with two top-ten players.

The location of play is still open, but must be decided upon by December 16, 2008, according to the regulations of the International Tennis Federation.

The first round:

Argentina - Netherlands

Czech Republic - France

USA - Switzerland

Cratia - Chile

Sweden - Israel

Russia - Rumania

Germany - Austria

Spain - Serbia

I agree with all the Rogerholics as well. Anyway, I came across an article on tennisweek the other day about Nole's little bros, Marko and Djordje. Here's the link if you want to read it:

I agree with all of you who say that Roger knows best what he needs. I hope he gets the coach he wants, if he wants one.

Like Marycorbin, I will quote ***Brilliantroger who said it

Thanks much for your response on Cahill. Like you, I was very, very disappointed by the comments made by Cahill recently. It saddened me actually. Especially, as you pointed out, “that this was during the post FO period when eve
