Switzerland meets the US
The Swiss Davis Cup team will play the United States in the first round of the 2009 Davis Cup competition (March 6-8, 2009).
The Swiss team gained promotion to the elite World Group last weekend after a one-year absence. The match in the US could feature the world's number one ranked doubles pair, the Bryan twins, against Roger Federer/Stanislas Wawrinka, who won gold in the doubles event at the Beijing Olympics.
The Swiss played three of the last ten encounters abroad, one of which - 2007 against the Czech Republic - they lost. The US team around Patrick McEnroe last won the Cup in 2007 and lost in this year's semi-final against Spain last weekend.
Severin Lüthi, the captain of the Swiss team, said it will be a difficult task against the USA, the 32-times-champion. "The Americans have a lot of strong singles players as well as the Bryan brothers, the leading doubles team in the world. But our team has chances against any other nation." Switzerland is the only team in the World Group next to the USA and Spain with two top-ten players.
The location of play is still open, but must be decided upon by December 16, 2008, according to the regulations of the International Tennis Federation.
The first round:
Argentina - Netherlands
Czech Republic - France
USA - Switzerland
Cratia - Chile
Sweden - Israel
Russia - Rumania
Germany - Austria
Spain - Serbia

Ha, ha, ha, I agree with you re. Djokovic. He is and will be always Fakovic or Djokoquit unless he grows up in TRUE SENSE.
-marycorbin, p12,
I saw the same TV program re. Stefi. You listed Roger's accomplishment comparing to hers.
Roger will play next week at the Stockholm Open. I believe he hasn't played this tournament since he was a junior so it should be interesting.
Gotta run,
MC
So glad to hear from you!
Thanks for the great stats on Roger's yearly wins. I feel confident that he will get more in the indoor tournaments soon. I would be so happy if he wins in Paris-Bercy!!! He has to start a new habit of winn
Yes Fakovic is quite repetitive in his post-match interviews. You are right. One other thing he always says (and I like to hear that one) is that he has "so much pressure as number 3 in the world". If he can't stand this pressure alr
good luck in all davis cup matches my dearest ...
you are alwayes #1 for us ,your loyal fans,
waiting to see playing again
HOPE SWITZIIS.WIN....;-)
I didn't read Fakervic's post-match comments because he usually says the same old boring stuff all the time. "I'm very tired, this tournament has been very exhausting, blah, blah, blah." There's a reason not a lot of people like him an
