Madrid: Roger faces Stepanek
After a bye in the first round, Roger will play Radek Stepanek (CZE/30) at the Madrid Masters on Wednesday.
Roger holds a 5-2 record over Stepanek, but lost to the Czech in the Rome quarter-finals last May in a pair of tie-break sets. But he got his revenge three months later with a US Open third-round victory.
After Roger's victory in Madrid in 2006, he was beaten in the final by Argentina's David Nalbandian (ATP 7) at last year's event. His potential remaining path to the semifinals includes Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the third round and either Juan Martin Del Potro (ARG/9) or abovementioned David Nalbandian in the quarters.
Other players in Roger`s half are Andy Murray (GBR/4) and Andy Roddick (USA/6). Rafael Nadal and Novak Djovkovic were placed in the upper half of the draw.
