Through in straight sets

17.10.2008 | Tennis

Roger'sbid to win the Madrid Masters remains on course as he downed 16th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in straight sets to clinch a quarter-final spot.

It was the the first time Roger and Tsonga faced each other. "It's hard to face a player you've never met before, that's why I worked a little bit harder at the beginning," our champ said. "It was like playing a box fight, he always hit first."

Roger proved too good for his younger opponent, beating the Australian Open finalist 6-4 6-1 in just over an hour. Now, he will clash against Juan Martin del Potro; they met twice, and our 13-time Grand Slam champion won both without dropping a set.

Wow, Roger to be honest, you're really amazing me! Your back after a tough 3/4 of a year, and you're truly better than ever! I may seem a little over-excited, but I'm just sooo happy for you!
