Roger out in Madrid

18.10.2008 | Tennis

Roger lost to Andy Murray in semifinal in Madrid today. The Scot took revenge for his defeat in the US Open final in September: 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

“I think he's improved at his pace,” Roger said. “First he had to grow up a little bit, become a man; I think he's taken that step well and he seems much more relaxed on the court which I think helps him. He's still fiery, which he's supposed to be. I just think you've got to give the young guys time to learn. It's so much more fun to see them learning.”

Roger sealed the first set after a break in the fourth game. It was the first set that Murray had to drop in the tournament so far. Murray responded and clearly took the second set 6-3. In the decider the Scot sent down 10 aces and despite Roger saving six break points, his opponent broke in game 11 and served it out to 7-5.

Roger is now off to Basel where he has announced that he will be competing next week.

Getting to the semis of any major event is acceptable..for most mere humans. We are disappointed because it's Rog.

We have to accept reality. The field has dramatically improved, and Rog is a year older, in addition to the degree of setback from the m

Good to see you again play this week Rogie. You were really great, too bad for this last match - oh well - you now know how these guys evolve and learn and maybe you can show them that you can still teach them a thing or two - at least for a few years :).

Congratulations, for someone that has been ill you have done amazing. I cried for you, because I hate when you lose.

You are open and a honest person, you don't cheat and you don't break the rules. You also wear your heart on your sleeve,
