Roger out in Madrid

18.10.2008 | Tennis

Roger lost to Andy Murray in semifinal in Madrid today. The Scot took revenge for his defeat in the US Open final in September: 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

“I think he's improved at his pace,” Roger said. “First he had to grow up a little bit, become a man; I think he's taken that step well and he seems much more relaxed on the court which I think helps him. He's still fiery, which he's supposed to be. I just think you've got to give the young guys time to learn. It's so much more fun to see them learning.”

Roger sealed the first set after a break in the fourth game. It was the first set that Murray had to drop in the tournament so far. Murray responded and clearly took the second set 6-3. In the decider the Scot sent down 10 aces and despite Roger saving six break points, his opponent broke in game 11 and served it out to 7-5.

Roger is now off to Basel where he has announced that he will be competing next week.

I love you Roger.

I watched all your games but unfortunately missed the murray one. I know that you are in tip-top shape and raring to go. I am not disappointed because I know you have come a long way from your illness and thats what matters most.
