Federer delights home crowd with hat-trick victory (Sport.scotsman)

ROGER Federer warmed up for the Paris Masters by winning his hometown tournament for a record third straight year by beating Argentine second seed David Nalbandian 6-3, 6-4 in the Swiss Indoors final.

The world No 2, who lost to eventual winner Andy Murray in the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters last Saturday, broke Nalbandian once in each set, to maintain his dominance at the tournament where he once worked as a ballboy.

Roger Federer's Sunday Morning Smackdown! (bleacher report)

Sunday morning in the States. Sedate, leisurely—the paper, coffee, and an extra special dog treat for Fido. Unless you are a tennis fan. Then you’re in high gear preparing for three finals—one in St. Petersburg where Andy Murray is facing a qualifier, number 150 in the world Andrey Gulubev. This one is a gimme. In Lyon, France, Robin Soderling faces Julien Benneteau…who? Right.

The crème de la crème match is in Basel where number one seed Roger Federer is facing his old nemesis—sometimes bane of his existence—number two seed David Nalbandian. They have been playing each other on tour since their junior years. Very often, Nalbandian gets the better of the Swiss virtuoso. Federer was on fire from the first. Two aces in the first game. Winners down the center, off the line, and in your face. Roger was not going to be denied. He wanted this victory and he was going to have it.

He served like a coiled spring and moved like waxed silk. Eight aces blazed past David Nalbandian, one of them a second serve ace down the line that wowed the Federer crowd. Federer surrendered only seven service points in the entire match.

Clinical Federer wins Swiss title (BBC Sport)

Top seed Roger Federer secured his third successive Swiss Indoors title with a 6-3 6-4 win over number two seed David Nalbandian in the final in Basel.

It was the 57th title of Federer's illustrious career and he said: "I am overjoyed. I served well and played aggressively so I couldn't ask for more."

"There are two tournaments that I always dreamed about winning as a boy - Wimbledon and Basel.

"When you realise a childhood dream and realise it again and again then it's one of those places that you just want to keep winning even more at."

Federer, who cruised past Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in straight sets in one of Saturday's semifinals matches, captured this title for the third straight year. He pocketed $186,000 as the champion.

"Roger played almost perfect, he played great," said Nalbandian. "He served very well and although I didn't play bad he was better than me today. I had a good week though."

Federer Clips Nalbandian To Rule Basel Title (AHN)

Top-seeded Roger Federer launched eight aces in beating Argentine David Nalbandian 6-3, 6-4 to win the Swiss Indoors Basel title for the third year in a row Sunday.
