Swiss Team of the Year

07.12.2008 | Off Court

A few months after their title at the Olympic doubles tennis competition, Roger and Stanislas Wawrinka were able to celebrate another victory. They were elected Swiss Team of the Year with over 30% of the overall votes at the "Credit Suisse Sports Awards" gala yesterday.

Unfortunately Roger was not able to make the hattrick as Athlete of the Year as Fabian Cancellara won the title. Roger had invited Fabian to his welcome home event in Basel on September 9 after his victories in Beijing and New York - the two athletes are good friends. Together with Stan Wawrinka, all three Swiss winners of a gold medal at the 2008 Olympics attended the event.

Two excellent individual tennis players, Roger and Stan teamed up for the Olympic doubles. They showed better and better performances as they advanced, elminating the top seeded American twins Bob Bryan/Mike Bryan in two sets and defeating Sweden's Simon Aspelin/Thomas Johannson in the best of five final. They showed most impressive matches full of emotions and developed their personal ritual. Congratulations to you two!
