Birmingham will host Davis Cup

19.12.2008 | Tennis

The city of Birmingham, Alabama, will host the 2009 first-round Davis Cup matches between the United States and Roger-led Switzerland on March 6-8.

The Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Arena is expected to seat more than 17,000 for the best-of-five series. It's the first time a Davis Cup match will be played in Alabama. Roger will play in the first round for the first time since 2004.

"It's certainly one of the tougher first-round matches we could have gotten," said McEnroe, captain of the U.S. Davis Cup-team.  Roger and Stan won the gold medal in doubles at the Olympics, beating American brothers Mike and Bob Bryan along the way. "That's pretty much their team," McEnroe said. "Assuming that they're both healthy, they're quite a formidable duo in singles and doubles."

To domocomix ,

First of all , Nalbandian was not 100% in Basel 2008 , his return of serve wasn't as good as it should be and his trademark double handed backhand down the line wasn't clicking either.

I recommend you watch all Nalby's matches at Base

"When Roger faces an "in form " Nalbandian especially on hard courts ( where usually Nalby begins to shine at the end of his injury hampered season ) , Nalbandian is then literally unstoppable. ( the same goes for Murray and Simon )

Ok , I k
