Roger loses first match

02.01.2009 | Tennis

Andy Murray has beaten Roger 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(6) to reach the final of the World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi. Roger won the first set but Murray bounced back to complete the victory and set up a final against Nikolay Davydenko or Rafael Nadal.

"It's been a great start but unfortunately I couldn't come through in the end," said Roger. "But Andy's had a fantastic end to the year and he looks in great shape again."

Roger was happy to get a hard match at the start of his season and, despite last year not being his best, he would take the same again for 2009. "Hopefully I can just have another terrible year with only just the one grand slam and that will be just fine."

You know roger;
Take Murray, Nadal, and Simeona as a challange. then you can beat them easily.
Murray has his confidence peak at the time now. so don't let those last few matches you lost to get your confidence back.

I don't understand why some people here are so anxious after Fed lost an exhibition match. You are really ridiculous.

He can kick all these young guys' asses and he'll. You'll see this in AO.

If there are so many 'know it all' about tennis and how the most talented tennis player [that I have seen in 40 years] should play his game , should get a coach etc etc one HAS to wonder why Roger and his team has not hired them!!

If some of these e

That's a grand attitude to have in 2009, Roger! LOL. Seriously, though, it's OK if Andy gets the little tourneys, right? Because you're STILL the Great One and STILL the man to beat in the Slams! See you in Melbourne :-D.

God bless you,
Joreen :-D

I'm sooo sorry Roger... I just watched an interview and I saw that you were joking about "terrible year" so I 'm sorry I said some things before... You look so pretty, but I think you lost some weight, you look great...
I can't wait to see you at AO... I

I find it very amusing that some fans panic when Roger lost an exhibition match. He did all THAT (13 GS, 237 consecutive weeks as #1, 57 singles titles, 617 matches won) and some still doubt his abilities and his drive. In addition, what I find most amu

Welcome back so nice to see you gracing us with your presence on court, and yes having a bit of fun in the exhibition match against Andy. It was quite amusing seeing you switch on and off throughout the second and third sets, and especiall

The season doesn't start yet. It is not an atp tour event. Roger did not push himself as hard as he should. i remember fed lost to andy in that king of thing before the aussie 2007, people jumped and started talking. Roger used that game to practice his s
